Defy The Great Law

Well, this is my character for Silver Brumby's contest which I know I won't win XD But it was fun to draw him anyways...or at least, I think my character's a he...he was suspose to be but after when I was done coloring, he ended up looking like a girl so...I'm not excately sure on what the gender of my Elquider. Anyways, it's name's Oath, and he's out there in his terra with a human child -le gasp- He broke the law XD Or at least his parent's law.

As you can probably tell, I got the whole scenery and tatoo design from my favorite band UnderOATH cause I was listening to them and their new CD came out on tuesday, and I've been listening to it none stop.

ABOUT THE BREED:

Breed: Elquider (El-qui-der)
Pelt: Red. All elquiders have a pelt that is any shade of red. NO other colour is possiable. Red only!
Eyes range in colour from:
Black: Angry or anything else
White: calm, peaceful (always glowing)
Grey: uncertain, afraid, and such
Horns: can range from stubs to tree branch looking horns. (The females have smaller, weaker horns) They also shed these horns every three years.
Mane and Tail: either solid black or solid white, or a mixture of both. Nothing else.
Markings: Every Elquider has a white dorsal stripe and white zebra stripes on their legs. They can have any markings, just the pelt MUST be red and *must* have the zebra/dorsal stripes.
Tattoos: Every Elquider has a tattoo. However, how 'defined' the tattoo is depends on the bloodlines. The more 'royal' the bloodlines, the more 'defined' the tattoo is. Also, the tatoo's are Neon green and are either on the face, neck, or flank
Horns: They do not show until the stallion/mare reaches the age of 5
Beards: Goes from their throat down to their chest. Only on the front part of the neck, no where else. Stallions can have small beards underneath the chins, but the only get those when they are old, like 100 years or more. It is a way of showing the stallion's age and 'wisdom'.
Hooves: Three toed
Hearing: Deaf (as are all Elquiders)
Smell: Excellent
Sight: Very Good
Personality: Varies
Height: 14.3-15.3 for mares 16.3-17.3 hh for stallions
Terrain: Mountains
History: They are feared by the men. They are more myth then fact right now. They are not sociable horses at all. The humans see them as demon like horses and fear them greatly. The elquiders are also very serious, proud and will not mate with any other creature beside their own kin. They see the others as 'lesser' animals. Also, even though their personalies may vary, they all have a 'dark' serious side to them. The stallions fight more like stags that equines, and they will only use their hooves when absolutely necessary.

STORY:

[I]I remember all the time of the rules that my parents have taught me about the world that I live in as I grew slowly into my young adult hood. Out of every single thing that they had even told me, the one rule that seemed to stick in my mind the most was that of to 'Be Warry Of Humans', I never truelly really understood this, I didn't see on what was to be feared of them. From what I understood of humans was that they lived in clusters in weird little shelters and walked on two legs, so, it wasn't like they could catch us or anything. Although, my parents still said they were dangerous, on how they could make this glowing thing called 'Fire' and how they had a great fear of us, which made them want to hurt us. I never could grasp a hold of how the human mind worked, nor really, could I understand on how my parent's mind's worked either.

Well, one day, I was out and away from my family, grazing within the dark shade when I caught sight of movement out of my eyes. Lifting up my head, I gazed around before I caught sight of them. Two humans holding onto a bundle. They were saying stuff, stuff I couldn't hear, I could only tell by the ways that their mouths were moving that they had to be arguing about something. Cocking my head to the side, I boldly took a step forward to get a better look, intregued by this whole scene. Soon though, the humans stopped and glanced around while I srank back into the safety of the shade when they put the bundle down and hurried off, as if they were leaving it but would come back for it later. Great cuiroisty came over me as I trotted forward now, not even thinking of the consiquences .

Peering down, I now stared at the bundle. Never before had I ever seen on what was laying inside. It was a human foal...a child. My white eyes stared down at it cluelessly for the longest time as it stared back up at me with large blue eyes. It wasn't long before a thought came to my head, this human foal was in great trouble in a way, who knows on what of the forest might come along and want to kill it. Glancing around for a moment before I finally lowered my head and took a grasp hold of some of the blankets and pulled up, hold holding onto the bundle which held the human foal. By doing this, I knew I was defying my parent's law, those of our breed of Elquider, but I didn't care at that moment.

With that, I turned and sprinted off through the the woods, making sure to not drop the human foal or it's blankets as I begain to head towards a land I had explored eariler in my life. It was nothing like here, but it would be safer for the both of us. As I raced along the path I knew of to get to my soon to be new home, I thought of a simple name for the human: Leaf.[/I]

Anyways, that's just a little insight into my character...honestly though, the name for the human child is just a filler, I have no idea on what I should really call him/her XD
